Water Rocket
Design and launch water-powered rockets to reach maximum altitude
Medium1 day eventPhysicsEngineeringAerodynamics
Overview
Teams design, build, and launch water-powered rockets using plastic bottles, water, and pressurized air. The goal is to achieve maximum altitude while following safety guidelines. Judging considers design innovation, construction quality, and flight performance.
Rules
- •Rockets must use only water and air pressure—no chemical propellants.
- •Maximum bottle capacity and pressure limits apply as per event rules.
- •Launch must be from a designated pad; retrieval area must be clear.
- •Teams are responsible for their own safety equipment (goggles, etc.).
Requirements
- •2L plastic bottle(s)
- •Pump or launcher
- •Parachute or recovery system
- •Team of 2–4 members
